Pater/slate is a sedimentary rock found in huge deposits in baramullah and karna. This is the softest kind of rock available yet thanks to its fibrous texture like wood it has a lot of share strength (load bearing capacity when supported on two ends). For this very reason it is used in hammams, pathways. If texture would be defined in one sentence God made wood in grey color, that would be pater. Because of its wonderful texture it has its indispensable place in architectural facades if presize cut planks are made. Adding to all this, it has high thermal properties enough to bear furnace like temperature where furnace bricks are otherwise used nailing its use more strongly in heating systems like hammams and fireplaces.
